  • Manawatu River
  •  Central and Northern Hawkesbay

  • Many other local rivers/tributaries and streams are within 1-1 1/2 hours drive from our base

Wilderness

  • Wairarapa/Wellington Rivers - 1 hr drive and various tramps, staying in Huts/fly camps (carry all gear) to fish in almost untouched pools

Guided Trout Fishing

Ruamahunga River (Grade 1)

The Ruamahunga River has 4 raft sections to choose from and is a wide gentle river in the lower sections and provides relaxing rafting and great fishing opportunities. The fish in the Ruamahunga River can reach trophy size and because of the remoteness of the upper reaches, the fishing is incredible.

Guided Trout and Raft Fishing North Island, New Zealand

Waiohine River (Grade 1-2)

Access to the best fishing is in the upper-middle reaches and is gained by helicopter or tramping. In the lower reaches rafting or walking are the best methods of accessing the river. The fish in the Waiohine River can reach trophy size and because of the remoteness of the upper reaches, the fishing is excellent.

Rangitikei River (Grade 2)

The Rangitikei River is about 45mins drive from Taihape and provides fantastic remote rafting and very special trout fishing. The sheer size, variety and length of this river makes day trips or multi-day expeditions a real delight. When the fishing is "on" it is not uncommon to hook many fish in a day.

Rainbow and Brown Trout are commonly caught on this river and in the very remote headwaters the possibility of targeting trophy trout is an option.

Mohaka River (Grade 2-3)

The Mohaka River is 35mins drive from Napier and provides excellent wilderness rafting and sensational trout fishing. The Grade 2 section of this river stretches for more than 40km's and trips can be run as day trips or multi-day expeditions. This is very popular with raft fishermen who like to float from pool to pool and is a very relaxing way to fish.

Both big Rainbow and Brown Trout are encountered on this river. The fish are very strong and well conditioned.

Tongariro River (Grade 2)

The Tongariro River is famous for its big, hard fighting trout and sensational rafting. The Grade 2 section of this river flows past the Turangi township

Hutt River (Grade 1)

The Hutt River flows past Upper Hutt City. The rapids on this section are Grade 1. There is pleasant scenery along the way and good trout fishing opportunities. Predominantly Brown Trout, ranging in size from 1 - 3kg. Trout numbers are usually very good in the Hutt River.

Ngaruroro

The Ngaruroro River has some of the most spectacular scenery New Zealand has to offer. Crystal clear pools and huge fish are a highlight of this river. Trophy fish can be found in this river system and the summer-time Cicada fishing is incredible. Nymphing the deep pools and runs can produce many hook-up's in a day's fishing.
